Abstract

The physiological effects which may be produced by anterior lobe extracts vary greatly both qualitatively and quantitatively, depending upon the type of gland tissue extracted, the method of handling of the tissue prior to extraction, the solvent used in making the extracts, the extent to which fractionation of the original extract has been carried out, and many other factors, of which pH and temperature are of first importance. It is my purpose in this communication to report on results obtained in a series of experiments designed to determine the effect of pH and temperature upon the potency of anterior lobe extracts prepared from dissected hog glands.
