Abstract

Density, refractive index, glass transiton temperature and expansion coefficient of glasses in the system 10K2O·20BaO·(70-x-y)SiO2·xGeO2·yB2O3 (mol %) have been determined. The structure of these glasses is discussed with emphasis on the shifts occurring in the boron and germanium coordination as a function of the relative concentrations of the three network-forming oxides. In GeO2-rich glasses part of germanium is present as GeO6 octahedra, which, upon the introduction of B2O3, are completely transformed into GeO4 tetrahedra aty>10.
