Abstract

1. The concentration of oxygen and nometallic inclusions (oxide stringers and nondeforming silicates) decreases and the density of the metal increases after vacuum arc or electroslag remelting of alloy 40KKhNM melted in an open induction furnace. 2. VAR and ESR reduce the creep in compression slightly and increase the fracture toughness and corrosion resistance in several aggressive media. 3. The contact fatigue strength of alloy 40KKhNM is higher after VAR and ESR than after open induction melting. 4. It was found that the service life of nonmagnetic roller bearings of alloy 40KKhNM is higher than that of nonmagnetic roller bearings of alloys BrB2 and 36NKhTYuM8. 5. On the basis of the results obtained we recommend alloy 40KKhNM subjected to VAR and ESR as a material for nonmagnetic roller bearings operating at temperatures≤400° and in some aggressive media.
