Abstract

Highly conducting and stable polypyrrole (PPy) was synthesized by chemical polymerisation in aqueous solution containing an oxidant, FeCl 3 or Fe 2 (SO 4 ) 3 , and anionic surfactant, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate. Results of elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy proved that the surfactant was incorporated into the PPy structure similarly as the doping anion. The conductivity of PPy prepared in the presence of the anionic surfactant is higher than the conductivity of PPy prepared only in the presence of an oxidant. SEM studies showed that the presence of the surfactant strongly influenced the morphology of the polymer.
