Abstract

In this paper, the basic properties and degradation properties of Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate- co-4-hydroxybutyrate) [P(3HB-co-4HB)] with different 4-hydroxybutyrate (4HB) molar fraction were investigated. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM), mechanical testing, weight loss and scanning electron microscope (SEM)were used to determine the basic properties and degradation process of P(3HB-co-4HB).The results show that: P(3HB-co-4HB) is an environment friendly and biodegradable materials, the physical properties, the size and morphology of the spherulites change a lot as the 4HB molar fraction changes, the degradation in soil results in loss of weight and roughness of the material surface.
