Abstract

The proper ferroelastic phase transitions of tetragonal crystal classes , 422,and are investigated by the method of three dimensional slowness surfaces. There are three types of slowness surfaces for the four classes stated above. The elastic constants, and have relations with the classification of slowness surfaces and the ferroelastic phase transitions. The spontaneous strains are determined by using elastic constitutive relations. The symmetry of ferroelastic phases are obtained by using the Curie principle.
