Abstract
We will devote this chapter to the solution of the time dependent Schrodinger equation for a free particle. In quantum mechanics, a free particle is described by a wave packet (which is nothing but a superposition of plane waves) and the solution of the time dependent Schrodinger equation will allow us to study the time evolution of the packet and how it would disperse in free space. We will also show how the uncertainty principle is contained in the solution of the Schrodinger equation.
