Abstract
The propagation of the normal zone in composite superconductors with high thermal resistance and high electrical contact resistance between the superconducting and the normal components of the conductor is analysed. It is shown that in certain conditions propagation can result from successive multiple splittings of the resistive domain generated. The minimum initiation current of this process has been found and has been analysed as a function of the composite parameters and external conditions.
