Abstract

The speed and attenuation of sound at 11 Mc were measured in He, Ne, A, Kr, and Xe at pressures ranging from atmospheric to a few mm Hg. The results in the nondispersive regime agree well with elementary theory. Those in the dispersive regime are compared with existing theories and with results previously obtained in He at 1 Mc.
