Abstract

The main aim of this article is to study the problem of propagation of Rayleigh waves in a homogeneous isotropic modified couple stress generalized thermoelastic medium. The formulation of the problem is prepared with the use of the three-phase-lag heat conduction model of couple stress thermoelastic subjected to mechanical and thermal boundary conditions. The expressions for the determinant of the secular equation, Rayleigh wave velocity and attenuation coefficient with angular velocity are computed numerically for different values of wave number, phase-lag of heat flux and material characteristics constant. The resulting quantities are depicted graphically. Some particular cases of interest are also discussed in the present problem. The study may find applications in earthquake engineering, soil dynamics, seismology, geophysics, geology, etc.
