Abstract

In the dilute gas approximation closed-form expressions are derived for (i) the propagation of k -body forces from k -to N -particle space and (ii) transition strengths between different spaces ( N ≠ N ′). They are presented in their local and global-averaged form for any k ⩾2. For k = 2 the local average leads to the final state density used in statistical reaction models. In this way, the link is given between state densities in reaction theory and random-matrix physics.
