Abstract

A problem on the propagation of internal Airy and Fresnel waves in unsteady stratified media is solved by the ‘running wave’ method. An eikonal equation is derived for the determination of the location of wave fronts. Conservation laws are obtained which allow us to determine the evolution of the wave width and amplitude with time. A problem on the propagation of an Airy wave from a pointwise mass source moving in unsteady media is solved numerically.
