Abstract

AbstractThe propagation of electromagnetic waves in a longitudinally magnetized plasma waveguide with perfectly conducting boundary has been investigated. Numerical calculations of the wave vector have been performed for the case where the direction of both the magnetic field and the wave vector coincide either with the [111] or the [100] crystallographic direction in n‐type germanium. The frequency used is 45 GHz, and the calculation applies to non‐degenerate germanium where the applied frequency and the plasma frequency ωp are of the same order of magnitude. For small plasma radius r0 strong guiding effects are found both in the real and imaginary part of the wave vector.
