Abstract

1. The linearized fracture mechanics considerations were used to determine the speeds of propagation of the flat elastic waves in media with the initial stresses for the case in which the initial stresses reached the values of the theoretical strength limits. 2. We determined the theoretical strength limits of organic glass for various types of loading using various variants of the theory of high and low strains in the case of the three-invariant elastic potential of the Murnagan type. 3. We calculated the speeds of propagation of the longitudinal and shear elastic waves in an unlimited medium of organic glass corresponding to the theoretical strength limits.
