Abstract

In this paper it is assumed that the cumulative elastic energy being released as a result of the fracture is emitted in the form of seismic waves whose source is indeed the fracture domain. By recording these waves, it is possible, in principle, to indicate the location of the focus, to estimate its size, etc. The authors consider the two-dimensional problem, the three-dimensional problem, and determination of the fracture domain parameters from seismic data. It was concluded that it is impossible to perform such an analysis for the three-dimensional case. The distance to the source as well as its length (by measuring the difference in perturbation arrival time from the ends) can be found by the scheme presented.
