Abstract

Experimental data on propagation characteristics of compression and rarefaction waves in steam-water mixtures are presented. The front velocity of both types of waves are shown to be essentially the same and can be predicted if the flow regime is known. Differences and difficulties in interpreting the total pressure wave behavior of rarefaction and compression waves are also discussed.
