Abstract

Cd{sub 1 {minus} x}Mn{sub x}Te semimagnetic semiconductors exhibit a giant Faraday rotation at room temperature, due to the Zeeman splitting of exciton levels. The authors have studied applications of this material in thin film waveguide devices. This paper reports basic data of use in fabricating optical isolators, as well as the results of calculations of waveguide characteristics.
