Abstract

An approximate theory is proposed to explain the propagation and radiation characteristics of low-permittivity conical dielectric waveguides of narrow flare angle. Theoretical radiation patterns are predicted and compared with those obtained for corrugated conical horns. The considerable similarity which is predicted is supported by experimental results obtained at 9 GHz using cones made from expanded polystyrene.
