Abstract
Unfortunately, cities all around the world are affected by natural disasters every year, which bring human and financial losses. Prop walls are structures very relevant in civil engineering whose objective is to isolate the terrain, and that characteristic makes them a solution for the safety in slope terrains that will be cut during an earthwork. In this regard, this article aims to present the most common building techniques concerning the prop walls, contextualizing the theme with the city of Campinas (Brazil), a region where the flood was a constant problem, as background. Finally, the group shows the importance of the theme for the improvement of welfare and safety in the studied region concerning natural disasters. It is also highlighted that the old techniques and metrics of civil engineering are still very efficient in regions that do not have access to new techniques and cannot apply technologies (e.g., IoT) to solve those problems.
