Abstract
Pre-equilibrium emission of protons in fusion-like reactions has been observed for 135 MeV 16O + 93Mb, with the proton energy spectra exhibiting a forward-backward asymmetry in the exponential tails. Gamma-ray multiplicity data for 100–400 MeV 16O+ 96Mo reactions are consistent with prompt emission arising from a broad range of entrance-channel partial waves. The results are interpreted as favoring a central jetting mechanism.
