Abstract

How to promote commitment to work : the right approach for the african enterprise ? Against the ethnocentricity of North American behaviourist theories of work motivation and the inevitably reducing approach that they induce, this article with the notion of commitment to work proposes a wider approach which gives sense to staff motivation as the core of the problem. In fact, the significance, often overlooked, of the non rational factor (perception, values or symbolism) is thus restored and the possibility of a better comprehension of the cultural logic proper to the African work environment is then offered.
