Abstract

The promotional effects of CeO2, MnO2 and Fe2O3 on CuO/SiO2 were studied in CO oxidation reaction. The CO oxidation test showed that CeO2 had the most promoting effects and CuO/CeO2−SiO2 realized complete conversion of CO at 433 K, which is 120 K lower than that of reference catalyst CuO/SiO2, because addition of CeO2 formed more Cu+ species and moveable lattice oxygen species on the surface of the catalysts. The order of promoting effects for various added oxides is CeO2 > MnO2 > Fe2O3. The characterization results proved that the Cu+ species and oxygen mobility played a very important role in CO oxidation. The various catalysts were characterized by BET, XRD, TPR, XPS and in situ DRIFT.
