Education is one of the main foundations for the child's development and also for national human resource development. Failure at school and grade retention is a serious concern among children, and their parents. The characteristics of school failure in Qatar have not been studied earlier. The aim of this study is to assess the presence of social, psychological, health and school related factors that cause school failure. All students who had failed their grades and had to be retained and repeat the year from 35 randomly selected schools of all grades elementary, intermediate and high school were included in this study for academic years from 2003 to 2008. Each student was individually interviewed by a well-trained school social worker. The study was performed on a total 699 children who were classified as school failures. Social reasons include living with one parent 26.9%, parental divorce (27%) parents showing no interest in their child's education and school system (41.6%), low income (19.3%), and smoking (19.6%). Frequent absence from school was a result in 33.3%; incomplete homework (45.9%) and teachers identified 63.7% of students to be hyperactive, inattentive and disruptive in classroom. Most frequent psychological disorders include examination phobia (68.8%), anxiety (49.4%), anger (32.5%), fear (43.2%) and learning disability (37.9%). The most prevalent health disorders included visual disorders (23.5%), asthma (14.9%), anemia (15.2%), and hearing deficiency (8.2%). Psychological and health related factors were found to be more prevalent in students who failed a grade in school. The primary care pediatrician can play a key role by identifying students at high risk and providing early intervention.

Aim. To study the approaches of Russian medical universities to teaching the implementing and monitoring the effectiveness of healthy lifestyle and public health promotion measures and formulating achievement indicators in the form of knowledge, skills, and abilities. Material and methods . Web scraping is the extraction of key professional educational programs in clinical specialties from the official websites of medical universities, followed by an analysis of the course syllabi, curricula, and competency matrices to identify courses in which professional competencies "Implementation and monitoring of the effectiveness of healthy lifestyle and public health promotion measures" are developed, and a comparison of competency development indicators (knowledge, skills, and abilities). Results . A comparative analysis of competency development indicators presented in the Hygiene course syllabi for General Medicine at three Russian medical universities in the form of students' educational achievements (knowledge, skills, and abilities) does not allow us to confidently assert that graduates will develop the required competency when implementing educational programs. Moreover, at most universities, this competency is developed in theoretical departments and is not covered in senior years during clinical courses. Conclusion. The obtained data indicate a following problem in Russian medical education: the lack of a unified approach across the country's universities to developing the professional competency "Implementation and monitoring of the effectiveness of healthy lifestyle and public health promotion measures" and the absence of a list of courses that graduates must complete to master this competency.

Background: Physical fitness testing is commonplace within schools and the physical education (PE) curriculum, with advocates claiming one of the key purposes of testing to be the promotion of healthy lifestyles and physical activity. Despite this, much controversy has surrounded the fitness testing of young people. Purpose: This paper draws on selected findings of a recent ‘fitness testing children feasibility study’ to explore the key issues, concerns and debates regarding fitness testing, as they relate to encouraging a physically active lifestyle. Research design: The feasibility study was commissioned by the National Assembly for Wales and involved two main parts: a comprehensive review of the literature (using metalib) to establish the key findings/issues, and consultation with key ‘stakeholders’ and ‘experts’ to ascertain their views, understanding and experiences of fitness testing children. The consultation was carried out via questionnaires and interviews. Data analysis: The key issues and themes emerging from the literature from 1985 onwards were identified and served as evidence for the debate. The questionnaire and interview data were analysed by quantifying the questionnaire responses and identifying the common issues and themes emerging from the transcripts (and the open items within the questionnaires). These were then used to reinforce, substantiate and illustrate key points. Findings: The findings reveal that the role fitness testing plays in PE in promoting healthy lifestyles and physical activity is questionable and cannot be taken for granted. For example, little evidence was found to support the notion that fitness tests promote healthy lifestyles and physical activity, motivate young people, or develop the knowledge and skills that are important to a sustained engagement in an active lifestyle. Conclusion: Based on the evidence, the paper concludes that much of the fitness testing carried out in PE may well represent a misdirected effort in the promotion of healthy lifestyles and physical activity, and that PE time could therefore be better spent.

BackgroundClients with severe mental illness (SMI) have overall poor physical health. SMI reduces life expectancy by 5–17 years, primarily due to physical comorbidity linked to cardiometabolic risks that are mainly driven by unhealthy lifestyle behaviours. To improve physical health in clients with SMI, key elements are systematic somatic screening and lifestyle promotion. The nurse-led GILL eHealth was developed for somatic screening and the implementation of lifestyle activities in clients with SMI. Aims of this study are to evaluate the effectiveness of the GILL eHealth intervention in clients with SMI compared to usual care, and to evaluate the implementation process, and the experiences of clients and healthcare providers with GILL eHealth.MethodsThe GILL study encompasses a cluster-randomised controlled trial in approximately 20 mental health care facilities in the Netherlands. The randomisation takes place at the team level, assigning clients to the eHealth intervention or the usual care group. The GILL eHealth intervention consists of two complementary modules for somatic screening and lifestyle promotion, resulting in personalised somatic treatment and lifestyle plans. Trained mental health nurses and nurse practitioners will implement the intervention within the multidisciplinary treatment context, and will guide and support the participants in promoting their physical health, including cardiometabolic risk management. Usual care includes treatment as currently delivered, with national guidelines as frame of reference. We aim to include 258 clients with SMI and a BMI of 27 or higher. Primary outcome is the metabolic syndrome severity score. Secondary outcomes are physical health measurements and participants’ reports on physical activity, perceived lifestyle behaviours, quality of life, recovery, psychosocial functioning, and health-related self-efficacy. Measurements will be completed at baseline and at 6 and 12 months. A qualitative process evaluation will be conducted alongside, to evaluate the process of implementation and the experiences of clients and healthcare professionals with GILL eHealth.DiscussionThe GILL eHealth intervention is expected to be more effective than usual care in improving physical health and lifestyle behaviours among clients with SMI. It will also provide important information on implementation of GILL eHealth in mental health care. If proven effective, GILL eHealth offers a clinically useful tool to improve physical health and lifestyle behaviours.Trial registrationClinical trial registration NCT05533749, registration date: 8 September 2022.

Background: Physical education teacher education (PETE) offers a context for students to learn about the promotion of active lifestyles in secondary schools through their interactions and experiences during the teacher education process. However, previous studies have found low levels of health-related fitness knowledge amongst PETE students, which is a concern given that there are high expectations of physical education (PE) to promote healthy, active lifestyles. In addition, international literature reveals a number of problematic issues associated with health-related teaching, learning and professional development in PE. Exploration of health-related experiences within the PETE process and consideration of the extent to which they address these previously identified issues were considered worthy of study because of PETE's potential to influence the health-related teaching of the students, and to ultimately impact the health-related knowledge and behaviour of the pupils they go on to teach.Purpose: To explore PETE students' health-related physical education (HRPE) knowledge, perceptions and experiences during a PETE programme.Participants and setting: Purposive selection of PE students on a one-year post-graduate secondary PETE programme at one University in England, working in partnership with up to 60 schools.Research design: Case study.Data collection: A qualitative approach founded on the interpretive paradigm was used, utilising a questionnaire completed by 124 PETE students.Data analysis: Responses to the open-ended questions were analysed by means of the generation of themes using constructivist grounded theory methods.Findings: At the outset of their programme, PETE students' knowledge of how active children should be was limited and confused. Their initial perceptions of the learning associated with promoting healthy, active lifestyles in PE were at variance with what they experienced in schools during their training. These experiences were diverse, the most common structure being discrete units of study with no health-related learning evident within the rest of the PE programme. The focus of the HRPE learning was predominantly physiological with minimal attention to physical activity recommendations or monitoring. Most students experienced school-based HRPE programmes, which they considered not particularly effective in promoting healthy, active lifestyles amongst young people. Conclusion: It would seem that PETE is not adequately preparing future PE teachers to promote healthy, active lifestyles and is not addressing previously identified issues in health-related teaching and learning. Changes clearly need to be made to the health-related interactions and experiences within PETE and within any PE, and sports science degree programmes preceeding or associated with PETE. PE is unlikely to effectively promote healthy, active lifestyles without the health-related aspect of PETE being radically changed, especially and crucially the school-based provision. This requires professionals working together to draw upon and utilise up-to-date health knowledge, as well as the best available guidance on how to ensure that teachers are able to use such information.

(1) Background: In accordance with the socio-ecological model of physical education (PE), school-based interventions to promote physical activity (PA) will only be successful if a change occurs in the perceptions and attitudes of all. This study sought to analyze non-PE teachers experiences in PE and how these experiences relate to the value they attribute to PE, sports and PA, and the impact of teachers’ perceptions on promoting active lifestyles in the school’s context. A mixed-method study was adopted. (2) Methods: A survey about the perceptions in PE was applied to 297 teachers (58 male). From this sample, 24 teachers were selected for three focus groups considering their experiences in PE (e.g., good experiences, bad experiences). MaxQda was used for the inductive qualitative data analysis. (3) Results: Teachers who have had good experiences in PE value the role of PE and sports. Teachers who have had bad experiences do not value the importance of PE or sports. (4) Conclusions: The results support the importance of having good experiences in PE to generate positive attitudes. Thus, teachers who have had bad experiences in PE may constitute barriers that will hinder the promotion of an educational climate that promotes PA and active lifestyles in schools.

Exercise prevalence in older adults often shows low levels, with a considerable portion of this demographic being physically inactive. Myriad studies have also depicted gender disparities in exercise prevalence, highlighting that men tend to engage in more physical activity compared to women. The primary objective of this research is to highlight sports health in older age, prevalence, and risk fac-tors through a systematic review. This research employs a systematic review method by searching reputable journal databases such as Science Direct and Pubmed. The inclusion criteria in this study were articles published in the last five years related to exercise in the elderly, addressing topics such as exercise prevalence, risk factors for exercise, physical activity participation, the health of the elderly, and barriers to exercise. The exclusion criteria in this study were articles published in non-reputable journals. The researchers selected and analyzed 16 articles meeting the inclusing criteria for this systematic review. For standard operations, this study follows the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) assessment. The research findings reveal that within the first group, various risk factors significantly impede exercise in older adults, including chronic health conditions such as heart disease and diabetes. In addition, factors such as lack of knowledge about the benefits of exercise, fear of injury, and social isolation contributed to reduced participation in physical activity. Furthermore, the findings with-in the second group underscore the significance of information that various exercises through health sports activities to support body health in old age. The results of the third group show that some treatments of sports health therapy are suitable for the elderly. Understanding these multifaceted factors is paramount to design effective interventions to increase sports participation in the elderly. Therefore, the promotion of active and healthy lifestyles in older adults should consider the social, economic and health factors that influence individuals' decisions. This holistic approach can contribute to improving the quality of life and well-being of older adults, concurrently reducing the burden of age-related diseases. Physical inactivity among schoolchildren remains a major concern worldwide. This study explores the perceptions of schoolchildren and sports leaders and coaches in a non-competitive after-school sport programme on the promotion of physical activity and active lifestyle using a salutogenic approach. For this purpose, qualitative research was carried out through interviews with 71 informants (63 schoolchildren and 8 sports leaders and coaches). With the information obtained, was analysed using the sense of coherence (SOC) elements as analytical tools. The results identified three themes that captured informants’ perceptions: 1) They viewed the non-competitive after-school as a meaningful space that promotes regular physical activity practice due to the short-term benefits; 2) attending weekly sessions leads to learn how to play sports and interact with peers which helps to better comprehend the experience acquired; and 3) constructive social relationships with sports leaders and coaches were an important resource that made the non-competitive after-school sports programme manageable for them. It is concluded that non-competitive after-school sports programme had a positive impact on promoting health and wellbeing among participants by providing meaningful, manageable and comprehensibility experiences that contribute to the creation, preservation, and development of health.

This article examines how redefining health through the perspectives of One Health, EcoHealth and Planetary Health can enrich Physical Education (PE) by advancing both health and environmental sustainability. While PE and health education are often treated as separate subjects, most PE curricula worldwide emphasise the promotion of an active lifestyle as a key component of health education through PE. This promotion of an active lifestyle is central to the concept of physical literacy (PL), which is a fundamental aspect of quality PE according to UNESCO (2015). This article focuses on how PE, contributing to health education through the promotion of PL, can evolve to incorporate sustainability goals through the recent new definitions of approaches to health. One Health approach underscores the interconnections between human, animal and environmental health, expanding PL to address zoonotic diseases and ecological impacts. EcoHealth highlights the sustainability of ecosystems, promoting PE activities that (re)connect humans with the more-than-human worlds without causing environmental harm. Planetary Health takes a global perspective, encouraging sustainable physical activities that reduce ecological footprints, such as cycling and walking. By integrating these holistic frameworks, PE can nurture not only individual health outcomes but also environmental stewardship and global health awareness. This shift seeks to educate individuals about their PL, but also their responsibility in preserving ecosystems and the planet, fostering a more sustainable and environmentally aware generation through PE.

An active lifestyle is of utmost importance for the quality of life of the older adults. With active lifestyle is meant not only physically active, but also engaged with the social environment. Although some individuals can achieve a desired level of physical activity and engagement by themselves, others seem to be in need of an external motivation. Technology based interventions show promising results promoting healthy behaviours, namely physical activity, in daily life. However, to the best of our knowledge, the promotion of an active lifestyle has been less explored. We intend to bring technology-based interventions beyond the state of the art by designing tailored strategies to motivate people to be physically active through engagement in pleasurable activities, thereby promoting healthy and active ageing. Our approach is to look at how the experience of positive emotions relate to physical activity in the daily lives of older adults and, based on that, design tailored strategies to support older adults in becoming more active. Therefore we define two objectives: (1) to increase understanding on the relationship between positive emotions and physical health in daily lives of older adults living independently and (2) to investigate how technology can support in monitoring and coaching towards active ageing in daily life. To achieve these objectives we perform a systematic literature review and two observational studies. We hypothesize that the experience of positive emotions in daily life is highly personal, with our studies focusing on a deep understanding in an individual level, making use of wearable technology and experience sampling on a smartphone. The results of the literature and observational studies are used to define the parameters and relations of a model to be implemented in a mobile system to promote active ageing in daily life. The literature review is concluded as well as the data acquisition of one observational study. This PhD trajectory is expected to be concluded by the end of 2016.

Relevance: Public health protection is the main principle of the development of a civilized society. At present, health protection issues are considered extremely important in our country. There is an obvious need for pharmaceutical specialists to participate as «team members» of the health system in the implementation of state tasks to strengthen and preserve the health of society, which is stipulated by international requirements for the organization of pharmaceutical care and promotion of a healthy lifestyle. The purpose of the study is defined as an evaluation of the professional potential of pharmaceutical specialists in the implementation of state tasks aimed at health protection of citizens. Materials and methods: The professional potential of pharmaceutical workers was evaluated on the basis of the analysis and systematization of the results of a survey of 414 pharmaceutical workers from various regions of the Russian Federation. In the work, non-parametric methods of statistical analysis were used to compare the average ranks of the responses of the respondents determined during the analysis of variance, and a two-sample t-test to compare the differences in the shares of respondents that agree with one statement or another. Differences were accepted as significant at p <0.05. Formation of the factors determining the health-saving competence and the level of preparedness of pharmaceutical personnel for health protection activities was determined by the expert assessment method. The number of experts was 32 (representative> 15). Results.Phasedmulticriteriaanalysisofthecomponentof healthprotectionimplementationintheorganizationofpharmaceutical care showed that the professional capacity of the pharmaceutical personnel in health protection of citizens depends on socio- demographic data (factors) of specialist (according to the criteria of education, pharmaceutical experience and position), the legal characteristics of the pharmacy - the foundation of pharmaceutical activity performance (criteria: form of ownership, belonging to a pharmacy chain). It is revealed that the most promising cohort for introducing the principles of health protection are pharmacists with pharmaceutical experience from 10 to 20 years, who have demonstrated the highest level of competence in public health protection, high awareness in the implementation of labor functions focused on the prevention of pharmacotherapeutic risks and have shown sufficient readiness to implement organizational technologies aimed at the formation and promotion of a healthy lifestyle. Based on the results of the analysis, the expert evaluation of the analyzed criteria has been done, the factors having the greatest weight in the formation of professional predictors, aimed at health protection during the provision of pharmaceutical care have been revealed and the coefficients to evaluate the professional capacity of the pharmaceutical personnel in the protection of the health of the population have been formed: Coefficient of health protecting qualification and personal competence (Cqualification), Coefficient of readiness for health protecting activities (Creadiness). Conclusion. The formation and evaluation of the professional potential of the pharmaceutical workers’ in relation to activities aimed at preserving and strengthening the health of citizens is of significant importance for the effective self-fulfillment of a specialist in the profession, which must be taken into account when developing educational programs at all stages of training and professional development of employees. The multi-criteria approach developed and tested by us to evaluate the professional potential of the pharmaceutical personnel is appropriate and advisable for designing of personnel development programs in pharmacy organizations, personnel evaluation systems and analysis of the effectiveness of the methods used in-house training.
