Abstract
Evidence shows that cesareans are overused, and even though they can be life saving in many cases, nonindicated cesareans contribute to increases in maternal mortality and morbidity rates. In the state of Colorado, the average nulliparous, term, singleton, vertex (NTSV) birth rate is 22.3%, lower than the national average and the Healthy People 2030 goal of 23.6%. Despite this, hospital-specific rates vary widely, from 7% to 45%. The Colorado Perinatal Care Quality Collaborative (CPCQC) set a goal of enrolling hospitals in the SOAR project (SuppOrting VAginal Delivery for Low-Risk Women) to reduce NTSV rates.
