Abstract
The preparation of behavior analysts for high level work in autism should be constructed in the context of current views of higher education. Behavior analysis contributes useful ideas to higher education practice, but some possibilities for development of more complex and varied repertoires have not yet been realized. The need for broad and flexible skills in behavioral autism professionals is a good example of the challenge facing behavioral approaches to higher education in general, and it represents an opportunity for behavior analysts to step up and make an important public contribution to a broader educational conversation. After summarizing the history of behavior analytic contributions and noting an international conversation on higher education, we examine some complex repertoires an autism specialist should perform. We end by suggesting what kinds of educational experiences would be appropriate in preparation for such a career, and we urge behavior analysts to make their educational work visible to each other and to a larger educational audience.
