Abstract

In a one-semester course designed to partially fulfill the Master of Social Work research requirement, students develop skills in designing and testing an observational instrument to evaluate team functioning in one of the following aspects: structure, leadership, information-sharing and communication, problem solving and decision-making, or conflict resolution. Examples of geriatric team evaluations illustrate the achievement of the objectives of promoting clinical and research skills in the field of aging. Adaptation of the research course to a module within an interdisciplinary team practice course is also described.
