Abstract

Nanoporous Ni (NP-Ni) and NiMnO2 (NP- NiMnO2) were prepared with mechanical alloying method and compared for the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of guaiacol. It was shown that MnO2 as an additive has a significant influence on the catalytic performance as it could accordingly change the material properties. Results of characterization demonstrated that NP-NiMnO2 had a unique structure with higher degree of amorphization than NP-Ni, which significantly facilitated the activity of HDO. Under the optimal reaction conditions of 150 °C and 0.5 MPa of H2 pressure, guaiacol was completely converted into cyclohexanol with 95.6% selectivity and NP-NiMnO2 was recycled 6 times without obvious deactivation.
