Abstract
The chapter begins with a succinct overview of public sociology followed by a review of the sociological teaching and learning research literature. Next, I briefly detail three ways of doing public sociology. I reflect first upon a university course that I developed and taught in which public sociology is the classroom. I then outline coffee house community meetings with students and members of the public followed with the concept of e-public sociologyanddiscuss how each format promotes and advances an after-hours (i.e., beyond the curriculum) public sociology. Finally, I discuss a popular sociology course on YouTube, as public sociology on demand, and how user insights from this course can help us be successful in our own work in promoting public sociology. A list of best practices appears prior to a short conclusion section.
