Abstract

This article discusses research documenting the negative effects of stress during law school.These effects include decreases in law students' emotional and psychological health, development of substance abuse problems, and impairment of the ability to learn.Personality type, moral reasoning, motivation, and learning style are also linked to the ability to cope with the stress of law school.Recommendations are made for changes in legal education which emphasize student differences and needs in an effort to decrease stress, improve psychological and emotional health, and increase learning.
