Abstract

The removal of CO in H 2-rich gas is indispensable to the polymer electrolyte fuel cell. The promoting effect of potassium on supported Rh metal catalysts was found in the selective CO oxidation with O 2 under H 2-rich stream. Rh/SiO 2 and Rh/USY exhibited low level of CO removal, however, K–Rh/SiO 2 and K–Rh/USY had excellent performance in the reaction. From the results of characterization, it is suggested that the role of potassium is different on SiO 2 and USY. In the case of Rh/SiO 2, potassium addition enhanced the Rh dispersion, and it enhanced the TOF in the case of Rh/USY.
