Promising Theoretical and Methodological Approaches and Future Directions in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research and Practice

Abstract

The chapters in this volume outline many promising developments in theory as well as design, evaluation, and implementation methods being applied in the field of health promotion and disease prevention to address different risk behaviors and diseases in varying settings and with different populations. Despite such a heterogeneity of disciplines involved in what is currently most often such a multidisciplinary area of research that convergence of the science of health promotion and disease prevention may be hindered, advances are being made. These advances are most readily made with true interdisciplinary approaches that involve not just individuals who are contributing to a particular project or addressing a particular research question from diverse disciplines, but from active involvement of all disciplines in the research questions and efforts to integrate the disciplines into a science of health promotion and disease prevention.
