Abstract

The computer code PROMAX/PC offers a method of calculating the maximum activity of radioactive waste packages for prescribed dose-rate limits. Additionally, the code which is based on gamma shielding calculations can be applied to the design of radiation shielding and to waste form characterisation. An example for the application of the code during conditioning of a radioactive waste concentrate is given. The maximum activities of a cemented waste form conditioned into various standard types of unshielded and concrete or cast iron shielded packages have been calculated. A method for the minimisation of waste packages and storage volume can be derived.
