Abstract
THE outstanding role of pyelonephritis in renal pathology is well documented.1 2 3 In a recent series it was found in 21 per cent, or more frequently than all other forms of nephritis together.4 Other reports have emphasized the fact that renal infections commonly escape clinical recognition.5 6 7 8 9 10 These findings are in contrast to the apparent optimism about therapy based on the treatment of bacterial infections with effective antimicrobial agents. A favorable impact of the antibiotic era on the prevalence of pyelonephritis was suggested by autopsy records from this hospital,5 but clinical experience has shown that many patients with chronic Urinary Tract infections . . .
