Abstract
Abstract : This article surveys the circumstances surrounding the initiation of chemical warfare in World War I and the subsequent international response. It then views the restraints that worked successfully against chemical warfare during World War II in relation to the current world situation to determine how and why these restraints have been challenged in recent years.
