Abstract

Glutamate provides a large intracellular pool of carbon and nitrogen. Coloff etal. (2016) find that proliferating cells shift from a nitrogen-wasting to a nitrogen-sparing mode of glutamate catabolism, highlighting the exquisite tethering of proliferative signals to metabolism.
