Abstract

To examine the transcription of prolactin (PRL) mRNA in the mouse mammary gland during late pregnancy and lactation, reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RTPCR) and Southern blot analysis were carried out An amplified product by RT-PCR was detected in all samples from mammary glands of pregnant and lactating mice. This product was specifically hybridized with a probe overlapping an entire sequence of mouse PRL cDNA in Southern blot analysis. This result provides the evidence that PRL mRNA can be expressed in mouse mammary glands during pregnancy and lactation.
