Abstract
The search for alternatives for the maintenance of rural families is a theme that has been strongly worked on the central region of Rio Grande do Sul. The project Esperança/Cooesperança is one of the prominent entities regarding to the subject in perspective of the solidarity economy. The case of farming families associated with the Esperança /Cooesperança Project, and their relation to the social economy is the focus of this study, which aims to understand how these families of Santa Maria, develop their productive activities and how they fall in view of the solidarity economy. Their relationship with the production and marketing and their conditions of life are points to be analyzed in this research.
