Abstract

To study the Russian Empire internal policy in the Belarusian-Lithuanian provinces, it is important to consider a set of measures for their internal rapprochement with central Russia, proposed by the Grodno governor M.N. Muravyov in 1831–1832. The fate of his projects, considered in a special advisory body – the Committee of Western Provinces, showed the existence of two different approaches to calming the region, agitated by the recent Polish uprising. The “radical” system of M.N. Muravyov and the “pragmatic” system of actions of the Committee could not be fully coordinated with each other. In the article the author offers systematization of the measures proposed by the Grodno governor and their objective assessment.
