Project of positron source at the U-120 cyclotron Bucharest

Abstract

To extend the applications with our U-120 Cyclotron we started a project of off-line and on-line positron sources produced at the cyclotron. A study is in progress to produce 48V and 27Si positron sources with proton beams of 14 MeV and intensities up to 100 μA (internal target) and up to 30 μA (external target). Using a 48V positron source we performed experiments for determination of the Doppler broadening of the 511 keV peak for different materials (copper, lead, indium). The aim of this project is to obtain a controlled energy positron beam facility based on a cyclotron, for performing applications in the semiconductor industry, for coating materials, etc.
