Abstract

A project diagnosis is an examination of the circumstances under which an automation project is started. The core of the problem in many automation projects can be traced back to an inadequate “contract” and other unfavorable starting conditions. The assessment made on the basis of the diagnosis may vary between a conclusion that the project is basically sound and the view that essential measures must be taken to get the project (back) on track. Furthermore, there may be an indication that additional assistance is required from one or more specialists regarding methodology, quality control, technical infrastructure, and socioorganizational factors. The main object of a project diagnosis is to gain insight into the strong and weak points of the proposed project to ensure that the work will be carried out properly.
