Abstract

This paper presents a project-based learning application in a retrofit-themed integrated design curriculum component in an Architecture and Urban Planning course at a community university. The research is descriptive, qualitative in character, based on a case study, using the day-to-day life of the classroom. The results showed greater academic performance and autonomy regarding advanced formal solutions and valuing the student's prior knowledge. This paper discusses concepts about active methodologies and applied project-based learning, related to the design process adopted, the valorization in the academic process and, consequently, its results. For this, previous teacher preparation and organization is necessary, based on existing bibliography, monitoring and management of the progress of projects in order to intervene or change the planning as needed by the teams.
