Abstract

The Front Cover shows the molecular recognition of folded 1,ω-amino-acid guests within p-sulfonatocalix[4]arene host anions stabilized with alternating hydrated cations and water molecules. The picture displays the burial of an alkyl chain of the amino acid of the guest within confined space offered by the concave cavity p-sulfonatocalix[4]arene host. Thus, under confinement folding is induced with three or two gauche conformations of the alkyl chain, so that hydrogen bonding is intramolecularly established between the ammonium and carboxyl groups of the folding guest.
