Abstract

Dens evaginatus is a common morphological deformity in permanent teeth which is characterized by the presence of an abnormal central cusp on the occlusal surface. The abnormal central cusp would always be abraded or fractured due to occlusal interferences and afterwards lead to an exposed pulp or dentin. Pulpitis, pulp necrosis or even periapical infectious diseases would eventually occur. Usually, the fracture of abnormal central cusp happens in the early stage of tooth eruption and consequently affects the development of root together with the adverse effects on the oral health. As a result, it is of critical importance to prevent dens evaginatus′s fracture with necessary treatments in the early time. This review focuses on the concepts of prevention and treatment of dens evaginatus′s fracture as well as related therapeutic materials. Key words: Odontodysplasia; Dens evaginatus; Apexification; Apical barrier technique; Regenerative, endodontic
