Abstract

Introduction: In the natural course of chronic liver diseases (CLD), progression occurs at variable rates to cirrhosis to decompensation and finally death from complications. In some cases, an intervening acute insult may hasten this process. This acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) has been reported to have higher mortality as compared to that due to decompensation in the natural course.
