Abstract

Introduction—The Special Committee on Hydrologic Regions, appointed as a result of resolution of the Executive Committee, Section of Hydrology, American Geophysical Union, June 23, 1943, was charged with duties summarized briefly as follows: (1) To coordinate past and present work relating to this subject; (2) to stimulate interest in the subject; and (3) to formulate and disseminate needs for study and classification of areas on the basis of hydrologic characteristics. Some of these objectives could be continued indefinitely. Others can be covered by a report. This is a Special Committee and it is assumed that it will cease to exist with the submission of its report. Only the Chairman of the Special Committee on Hydrologic Regions has thus far been appointed, for the reason that until work of the previous Committee and of the Chairman had been compiled, there was little to lay before additional members for consideration.
