Abstract

AbstractTransition‐metal‐catalyzed oxidative annulation reactions can be used to synthesize various benzo‐fused oxygen‐ and nitrogen‐containing heterocyclic compounds from benzoic acids. This review deals with publications from the past 15 years that focus on modifications of reaction conditions and variations of coupling reagents to this end, as well as the development of methods characterized by sustainability, a broad range of substrates, and a high tolerance of functional groups in constructing heterocyclic skeletons that are commonly found in drugs and bioactive molecules. This review summarizes and categorizes the annulation mechanisms with various coupling reagents.magnified image
