Abstract

The endocytobiotic diatoms isolated from a previously unexamined host, Cyclopeus carpenterii, turned out to be quite unusual. They belong to a new genus related to Nitzschia, but which has a canopium attached to the keel. Amphora bigibba was also isolated from specimens of the same host. Progress is alsobeing made in clarifing the description of the endosymbiotic Nitzschia frustulum symbiotica variants found in Caribbeanhosts. The sequence of ssrRNA of the endosymbiotic dinoflagellate from the larger foraminifera, Sorite marginalis, has been completed. It is not identical to any previously sequenced endosymbiotic dinoflagellate.
