Abstract

Macrobrachium rosenbergii (de Man) larvae metamorphosed to the post-larval stage in modified Herbst's salted water (12 ppt salted water mixed with 12 ppt diluted seawater at 3:1) in an 8-litre static water system with changes of 1 litre of water every 5 days after the initial period of 15 days. The survival rate was 15% at a density of 1.5 post-larvae per litre in 40 days. The technique is simple and practical for smallholding prawn farmers in Thailand.
