Abstract

Many new wireless communication technologies have been developed over the years to effectively address the problem of ever growing spectral congestion. Among them, impulse radio attracts significant attention due to its simplicity, signal properties and availability of massive spectrum. In order to utilize the advantages offered by impulse radio, our research group has developed a new Differential Code Shift Reference signaling scheme. Simulation results show that the code shift reference schemes have better performance compared to conventional impulse radio schemes. In this paper, we present the design and operational principles of a prototype Differential Code Shifted Reference impulse radio ultra wideband transceiver which is under development. We also investigate the practicality of the transceiver using experimental results.
