Abstract
Research, development and engineering effort has been maintained on Condor, Duaringa, Lowmead, Nagoorin, Nagoorin South and Stuart oil shales. Results have continued to accumulate steadily. Research programmes have been completed on shale oils, retort waters and solids produced from the AOSTRA Taciuk pilot plant processing of Stuart oil shale. The first detailed oil coking and heavy oil cracking kinetics data and mineral reaction stoichiometry were generated for a number of oil shales. The combustion kinetics database has been extended to higher temperatures. Guideline preferred processing conditions have been developed for both retorting and combustion. Additional correlations have been developed between oil shale properties and grade for Condor and Stuart oil shales to provide improved organic reaction stoichiometry.
